Happy Valentine's Day!

In honor of Valentine's Day, I thought I would show you what Braeden, Bayler & Myself have been up to in the kitchen. I love Valentine's Day because it is the perfect day to tell everyone you love, just how much they mean to you.

This year I decided I would bake something for my mom, mother-in-law, sister-in-law & Ryan's Grandma. I wanted to keep it personal, without breaking the budget. I actually got the idea this summer, and started planning ahead.

Here's what we made! Red Velvet Heart Shaped Cakes ...

These were super duper easy to make, and made a BIG impact with the family. I first started collecting the egg crates after we would use all the eggs. Ryan however did not see my vision for the past couple of months and was extremely annoyed with me for keeping them lying around :) I stripped off all of the labels, and replaced it by a red banner that said, "Happy Valentines Day!" I then made little name tags and made some hearts out of glitter I had lying around as well.

I used the Egg-Land's Best Clear Egg Crates.

As for the baking, I got these heart shaped molds a couple of years back, but you can still find them. They are silicon, so the cake comes out extremely easy. I choose to make red velvet, just because they would turn out red. Since I only had twelve molds, I just made 12 at a time. Instead of using a cream cheese frosting like you usually would, I decided upon butter cream ... because I love it :) There is no science here :)

After the molds cooled, I just pipped hearts on top of the molds and covered them with sprinkles and let them fit. When they were all cooled, I placed them in the egg crates.

I love using things from around the house to create the perfect gift. Enjoy everyone, and Happy Valentine's Day from the Imhoff's!

Very cute idea! I've been saving egg cartons too. They're nice for delivering Christmas cookies as well.
