The Pampered Mom's DIY Antiqued Dry Rack

Wednesday, May 20, 2015
Easy project I completed a few weeks ago if you can even call it that.  I have been eyeing these cute vintage remake drying racks ... how cute are these!  And the price at $20.00 was right up my alley too.

I got mine from World Market.  However, mine didn't start off black.  It was actually an off-white cream color and that wasn't exactly going to work in my kitchen.  No problem, you all know the drill.  I picked up some black matte spray paint with primer built in and 5 minutes later - perfection!

This cute little dry rack cost me just $25 with the paint job and is a focal point of my  kitchen.  It's one of the pieces I have been asked about more than any other!

Selecting the Right Colors & Textures

Monday, January 12, 2015
In a way, it's nice to be able to start from scratch when you're building your home.  Newly painted walls, fresh untarnished floors and designing your own personal oasis in the kitchen.
Now that our home is framed, and the next steps are brick and dry wall, it's time to begin thinking about the space itself.  Colors, hues, and the overall feel of each area.  More importantly, the cohesion when moving from one room to another.

This past week I have put together a pallet of colors and textures to help me when selecting furniture, window coverings and area rugs for our home.  The main spaces being the kitchen, family room, and dining room.  For the most part, I have selected natural, organic and neutral colors and textures for each space.

Grey:
The walls in our house will be all Grey, a builders grey selection.  We have also purchased a grey dining table.  The backsplash in our kitchen are a grey glass tile and we have selected grey barstools.  Along with other accents, greys will be found throughout the house.  It is my absolute favorite color!

Organic Wood & Textures:
Hardwood floors will be found throughout the main level.  We have chosen a dark, hand scrapped [against the grain] stain.  The kitchen island and the fireplace mantle will be a black wasabi color, which is a very deep brown.  To the naked eye, will look black.  Lighter, more natural, shades of wood grain will be found throughout the house in décor and furniture selections.

Black:
Black furniture, chairs, along with the island and mantle will give the allure of a farmhouse feel.  Our kitchen table & bedroom will be the main pieces throughout the house that incorporate black.

White:
Windows, stairway, trim all will be white.  As well as the cabinets, and a lighter countertop with black specs.  White will be a stable when it comes to furniture and accents.  Nothing is better to me than a white airy room. *Swoon*

Silver:
This was by far the HARDEST choice of the whole house.  Do I go with Silver or Black light fixtures, door handles and vanity lights.  I lost sleep over this decision - honestly I did.  I still am on the fence, but have decided to go with all Silver, including the kitchen pulls.  I think because I am using dark wood stain in a few places, the silver will be a nice touch to  "glam" it up.  I will let you know if a few months if I made the right decision :)

Green:
My accent color.  You'll find this in plants, curtains, and other décor through the entire house.  I love the green mixed with the wood grain and whites to create a clean, farmhouse feel.

Here is a few of the inspirational photos I have been working on.  Our house wont look like the below photos, but the colors and hues in each represent our house well.  Except for the dark lights, where we will have silver. :)

Anyone else have any suggest for colors we should consider?  We would love to see photos as well!

Imhoff House: Basement Progress + Interior Paint Colors

Wednesday, November 6, 2013

After all the carpet in the basement was pulled up, we had to make a decision on what to put down.  Do we go with carpet, tile or stain?  It was a huge decision, and one that we needed to make quickly.  There are obvisouly plus's and minus's when flooring a basement.  I wasn't sure what exactly I wanted, but I knew I didn't want to carpet the main area.  This basically left tile and stain.  I also knew I wanted to the flooring to be dark ... basically black!  Because the flooring would have to be done the next week, we needed to get paint on the walls.  With a dark floor [either tile or stain] I wanted a light wall.  I feel like my whole house is grey, but really, the colors just worked perfectly.  Before we made an flooring decision, we picked out the paint and we ... I mean Ryan painted the basement bedroom, main living area and the bathroom.

Here are the colors we used ...

It looks amazing!  I am in love with the colors [which were used upstairs as well].
So what do you think?  Stain or tile? Benefits?

Master Bedroom Progress

Tuesday, October 8, 2013
Our room is finally starting to feel like "our room" again.  That feeling of comfort and relaxation!

With all the updates going on in the house, it's nice that our bedroom is almost complete.  There are a few things here and there, but basically, it's just about done.

We'll be adding a nice black dresser and TV along the long wall facing the bed itself.  And I am still trying to find some of my nice pillows that belong on the bed.  I am sure they are still in storage!  One day!!

We went with our old wall color for the last house - Gravity. It's by Valspar, however, we get the Benjamin Moore paint instead and just have them match it!

Little by little it's feeling like home! :)

A Little Paint Goes a Long Way ...

Monday, September 16, 2013
It still amazes me how much a little paint can completely change a space.  It's probably one of the more economical choices when it comes to redecorating, or making a place your own.

In our case, once we moved into our new house, the first thing we decided to do [after we deep cleaned], was to paint the entire house, top to bottom, closets included.  A MAJOR task for us as we have 20ft high ceilings in the main room.  You may remember this post where I shared the color palette we chose for the house.

Here you can see just how much a little paint can go.  In the before image, the walls were a creamy, yellow color, which really dulled and outdated the home.  To make it more modern and to make the white trim "pop" we choose Benjamin Moore's: Ozark Shadows for the main level.  When we first put a sample on the wall, it almost seemed to dark, which made us question our decision.  BUT, with a little bit of help from family and friends, we took the plunge and went for it.  Boy am I glad we did, it's EXACTLY what I wanted and dreamed it would be.  Benjamin Moore ... you did not disappoint!

To save some time, we hired some painters for the main room, and my husband painted all bedrooms, closets, bathrooms and the laundry room.  We haven't even began on the basement, but that's for another post!  What do you think, did we make a good call with the grey?  What's your favorite Grey Shade?

We have recently completed the paint in our bedroom, dining room and bathrooms.  These will all be in a different post!  Hope you enjoy as we start making this house our home!

Upstairs Interior Rooms Painted

Sunday, September 1, 2013
It's day 4, and we're been hard at work cleaning and painting the new house.  Words cannot describe how dirty the house was... almost hard to stomach.  But with a little elbow grease, the house is shaping up wonderfully!

Projects Currently Underway...
Professional Painting on the Main Level
Upstairs Bedrooms Painted
Master Bedroom Painted
Deep Cleaning
Power Washing
Changing all Toilets
New Shutters
Carpets Steam Cleaned
New Fans & Light Fixtures

The Upstairs Bedrooms were completed this evening and I am seriously IN LOVE with the color!  It's the most tranquil hue.

My Iphone camera does not do justice.  The old walls were all different shades of blue, dirty and scuffed.  Now, each bedroom is fully cleaned, painted and carpets steam cleaned!  The camera makes the wall color show up pretty green, however it's more of blue when you're there.  Better photos to come when the rooms are complete!

Both boys rooms and the pay room upstairs are all in Benjamin Moore's Palladium Blue

Interior Paint Colors

Friday, August 30, 2013
We haven't been in the house more than 24 hours before I bought the paint.
It's pretty normal to expect to paint any house you move into, I just didn't expect have to paint the entire house.  Although I am dredding the process and I am pretty impatient, it is nice that we get to paint the house in the exact colors we like.

Time time around I choose to go with all Benjamin Moore Paint.  I have heard nothing but great things from those who have used it, and I found all the of colors I liked in a matter of minutes.  Seriously though, we just walked out of the store with 15 gallons of paint ... and that doesn't even include the paint we'll be buying for the basement ... lord help us!

Here are the paint colors we choose.  We like grey and natural tones in the house, so we tried to stay withing a certain palette.

Paint Colors Include:
Benjamin Moore: Ozark Shadows
Benjamin Moore: Rever Pewter
Benjamin Moore: Palladion Blue
Valspar: Gravity in Benjamin Moore Paint
Benjamin Moore: Dove White
