The Pampered Mom's Mimosa Bar

Tuesday, August 11, 2015
I don't know about you, but I wake up dreaming of a mimosa bar waiting for me in the kitchen, however, most days I am awaken by crashing cereal bowls and spilled milk ...
Here's a quick easy setup that only takes a few minutes to throw together on the rare occasion you do have something to celebrate.  Invite the girls over, set up a quick mimosa bar and hire a few cosmetologist to come over and pampered your friends.  For me, most evenings are spent rushing around after school to dinner, sports and finally home to finish homework before starting the kids nighttime routines.  Instead of trying to get the calendar to work for an evening with all your girlfriends, start thinking mornings! ... oh and mimosas!

Tips to Host an Amazing Dinner Party

Thursday, July 23, 2015
Who doesn't love a good dinner party?  I for one am a super fan!  I love getting everything ready, making sure the house is clean and the menu is prepped.  But what I really love, is setting a table.  Each is different, making each unique for the guests.

Whether you have attended and help many dinner parties over the years or you're new to the scene, here are a few GO-TO can not fail tips that I have accrued while planning for the easiest of guest to the those who make you nervous!  Over the years planning for events and parties, I became known as the etiquette Specialist, whether true or not, I sure do have a few tricks up my sleeve!

The Pampered Mom's Go-To Tips for Hosting the Perfect Dinner Party

1.  Start Early:  Not necessarily that day, start days before.  Write down your menu and grocery shop ahead of time, not the day of.  That way if you have to order something special, you'll know for sure you'll have it on hand.  When choosing the right menu, make sure your guests don't have any allergies you're unaware of.  It's always a good rule of thumb when you're cooking for more than your family to have options.  If you're serving shell fish, add a meat option.  If you're serving a meal that required meat such as chicken, steak or pork, have something available to whip up in a moments notice if someone is vegetarian.  You can't please them all, but they'll be impressed you were able to give them some variety!

2.  Cleaning:  You should consider doing all mild cleaning ahead of time.  You're house should be about 80% clean before the day of so you're not running around with your head cut off.  For me, I make sure that the house is kept, everything is in it's place the night before.  I personally love to fine-tune, clean floors and bathrooms the day of, so that they look and smell fresh for all that attend.  Also, you never know where your guests will end up.  You think you don't need to clean that hall closet?  Think again, your guests could think that's the bathroom door and open it up.  I make sure each room in the house is cleaned and vacuumed.  I also love placing fresh flowers throughout the house as well.  This is a costly finish, but it makes a lasting impression!  When I was little, my parents took me to a strings concert in Branson, Missouri called Shoji Tabuchi.  It was magnificent, but you know what I remember most?  The Bathrooms!  Literally, they were the most amazing bathrooms I have ever been in.  So you know what I do now?  I put something special in ours that impress our guests.  Each time is different, but lately I have been fond of this local sugar scrub I found here.  I place it in a small glass dish with a small spoon and wa la!  Easy and remembered!

3.  Music:  You really should have some idea of the mood of the dinner party before hand.  Is it fun and casual, is it more posh and trendy?  Whatever the mood you want to set, you should do so with the music you select.  You never want guests to walk into your house and there is science.  The week before start compiling music for the evening and create a playlist.  Try it out the night before while you're cleaning and make sure the music isn't too loud during dinner!

4.  Prepwork:  The day of I actually prep the entire meal.  It calls for a handful of basil, you bet I am placing that in a dish and labeling for the evening.  I literally cut, chop, mix, blend everything before the night begins, that way, it's SUPER easy to through together.  Thinking of trying a new dish?  Not for a dinner party!  Everything you decide should be tried before you serve to your guests.  Seriously, that could be disaster!  Especially with the way I cook!  You will also want to set the table.  I always set mine pretty formal looking.  I just like the way it feels, I like my guests to feel pampered but honestly, it's just personal preference.  Trust me, if we're doing a taco themed dinner party at the house, I will still be setting the dining room with my best fiesta dinnerware, with three glasses per setting and silverware and linen napkins ... because that's what I like!  Why three glasses you ask?  Because I always offer my guests water, a paired wine to go with dinner and I always finish it up with a champagne toast.  I mean really, who doesn't love a little bubbly before dessert?!

5.  It's in the Details:  Seriously though, it's IN THE DETAILS!  You can plan for weeks and still if you forget the little things ... your guests may forget the night.  Not really, but you know what I am talking about.  Give them something that will last, that will stay on their tongue a bit.  For me, if I am serving a salad, you better believe that salad is ready to go, in individual bowls in the refrigerator ahead of time.  Always chill plates and bowls that will be serving something cold, just as a rule of thumb!  Butter?  Make sure you whip your butter and place in individual tubs and chill, take out an hour before dinner.  It's the little things.  I know I mentioned flowers earlier, but something about fresh flowers on the tablescape creates a warm and inviting place.  When all these details are in the air, don't forget to delegate.  For me, I always make my husband the designated bartender and he is always in charge of the music.  For me, I always rule by:: create the scene you want, and then add candles!

6.  And lastly, as Ina Garten says, "Greet your guests at the door in socks, slippers, or barefoot - it sets a fun, chill vibe right away."  Have fun, relax and enjoy the evening. You deserve it!

A Lesson on Baking

Sunday, June 14, 2015
I want to make sure and introduce baking to the boys.  It's so important to me that they know their way around the kitchen and are able to make and bake simple and traditional items.  SO, today we learned how to make chocolate chip cookies!

It went beyond just dumping and stirring.  Braeden had to read the entire recipe to me and ask questions about what certain things were, and Bayler was in charge of preparing all the ingredients.  It was the first time baking in the new house and I must say ... it's more fun when you have a lot more space to bake!

These boys were so excited to eat what they made!  And if you can't tell, they are EXHAUSTED!  Not enough sleep + making two boys be patient while the cookies baked = Slap Happy!  They couldn't stop giggling for the photo!  Love these two!

The Pampered Mom's Holiday Spiced Apple Wassail

Sunday, December 22, 2013

This oh-so easy drink came about after a friend of mine told me about a wassail walk that takes place in a quaint small town just north of here.  Small shops in the town gather together and each makes their own special spiced wassail, just in time for the holidays.  Isn't that the cutest?  After hearing this story, I started taking it upon myself to find and perfect the perfect holiday wassail.  So far, the warm cider is perfect during the cold winter months!  Hope you find this recipe makes it into your own home ... new traditions maybe?

Ingredients:
1 gallon apple cider
6 apples, cored and cut into 1 inch chunks
4 cinnamon sticks
1/4 teaspoon ground mace
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground ginger
 3 tablespoons brown sugar
1 thinly sliced orange
1 lemon thinly sliced

Directions:

  1. Combine the cider, apple chunks, and cinnamon sticks in a large kettle and bring to a boil over medium heat. Turn the heat down to low and add the mace, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and brown sugar. Stir to combine, and simmer for 20 minutes until the spices have developed their flavor.
  2. Drop in the orange and lemon slices, simmer for 5 more minutes, and turn off the heat. Ladle the wassail punch into mugs and serve hot. Include a few pieces of cooked apple or a cooked orange or lemon slice in each mug.

enjoy!

A Fourth of July Tradition ....

Monday, July 8, 2013
If you know anything about me at all, you probably know how I just LOVE traditions.  Not only the traditions that I grew up around, but I love to come up with my own as well.  I think it creates a sense of security and love throughout the family.  When you're home, you know what to expect.  It becomes a staple.

This is a tradition that I grew up with on occasion.  Meaning that when I think about this particular holiday, I think about this particular item.  I believe that we did this most Fourth of July's, but I am sure there are a few in there that we skipped over.  Whatever the consistency was, I am determined to continue the tradition of Homemade Ice Cream and Root Beer Floats on the Fourth of July.

Isn't there something so American about Floats & Fireworks?  Here is a sample of ...

The Pampered Mom's: Grilled Soy Sauce & Brown Sugar Salmon

Thursday, January 10, 2013
As I announced yesterday, through my business, The Bridal Solution, where I design, style and plan weddings all over the country, I have been asked to start styling for a popular food blog "somewhat" close to home.  I am REALLY excited about this venture.  They say in business, do what you love ... well I am living it up, let me tell you!

I thought I would try my hand at a little food styling this morning, and decided dinner last night would be a good opportunity to start things off.  Like the photos from last night, my [food stylish] job will be consistent with clean lines, simple and appetizing.  Wish me luck :)

Without Further Ado, here is one of my favorite recipes for our family.  We have Salmon once a week, and this seems to be the favorite so far!

Grilled Soy Sauce & Brown Sugar Salmon:

Get enough salmon to feed  your family.  The marinade recipe below works really well for 2 large filets of salmon, but of course, you can make more if you need to!

#1. Prep Salmon
Lay your salmon out flat and and sprinkle with lemon pepper and garlic powder

#2.  Wisk the rest of the ingredients together to create the marinade.  This marinade is the perfect combination of salty & sweet!

#3.  Place salmon in a large plastic zip lock bag and add the married marinade.  I usually do this about two hours before I expect to start grilling.  Place bag in the refrigerator to chill.

#4.  Grill Salmon.  Each fillet is different, but for me what usually works is when I cook the salmon for 7 minutes on each side.  Salmon should be flaky when done.

Ingredients:
2 filets of salmon
TT lemon pepper
TT garlic powder
TT salt
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/3 cup water

Thank you for taking the time to check out my blog.  It's mostly about my adventures as a mom, wife and business owner!  I love beautiful things, I love weddings and I love creating memories!

Pecan Cheesecake .. the Pampered Mom's Fav

Thursday, December 27, 2012
I can across this recipe a few months back and packed it inside my recipe binder under "Holiday's."  SO
I decided Christmas Eve would be the perfect time to try this super delicious looking cake ... and boy am
I glad I did. This is now my  go-to dessert ... The Pampered Mom's Special Cheesecake!

If you like Pecan Pie and if you like cheesecake, this is the perfect combination of both.

Pecan Pie Cheesecake Ingredients

Crust:
2 cups vanilla wafer or graham cracker crumbs
1/4 cup packed brown sugar [be generous]
1/2 cup butter, melted

Pecan Layer:
1 cup sugar
2/3 cup dark corn syrup
1/3 cup butter, melted
2 eggs
1 1/2 pecans, chopped
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cheesecake Top:
3 - 8 ounce packages of cream cheese [softened}
1 1/4 cups packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
4 eggs
2/3 cup heavy whipping cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Pecan Pie Cheesecake Directions:

preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Make crust by combining vanilla wafer crumbs or graham cracker crumbs and brown sugar. Stir in melted butter.  Pack down in a springform pan.  Make sure when you do this that you pack down and up all sides, almost creating a crater for the pecan layer.  [You don't want the pecan layer to touch the springform pan.  Bake for 6 minutes, take out and let cool on the side.

Mix all ingredients in a medium sized saucepan.  Bring to a boil over medium high heat.  Reduce heat and continue to stir until sauce thickens, about 8 to 10 minutes.  The sauce will look almost white when you are finished.  Pour into crust crater and set aside, again not letting the pecan layer touch the sides of the pan.

Reduce heat in oven to 325 degrees.  Mix cream cheese together on medium until creamy.  Add brown sugar and flour until fluffy.  Add eggs one at a time, and make sure to mix well after each one.  Stir in heavy cream and vanilla.  Pour in springform pan on top of crust and pecan layer.  Add a small pan on bottom rack with very hot water.  Put cheesecake in oven for 1 hour.  Turn off oven and leave cheesecake in oven for another hour with the door closed.  Take out cheesecake and run knife around the sides of the pan to keep the cake from sticking.  Place in refrigerator for at least four hours before serving.

Wa-La!
                                                              The perfect Cheesecake!

{Braeden's 4th Birthday Party: Part 1}

Thursday, October 27, 2011
This year for Braeden's party we decided to keep it pretty low key. With only family invited, and limited party designs. It was a perfect year for it, since the past years we have gone all out. See his past birthday's here: Lil' Quarterback, Monkey Theme & 3 Ring Circus.

This year was a PIZZA PARTY! And not your average, order in pizza and drink soda party either. I ordered dough, sauce and ingredients separately from a local pizza chain. We made the pizza party into a pizza bar "build your own pizza pies."

Everyone seemed to love it, and we were all stuffed by the time the party was over. For dessert I served a cake that I made. The Toy Story figures on top were party of the cake kit from Walmart. Braeden had seen them and wanted to use them ... why not! I love homemade cakes with my special butter cream ... I swear it's better than having it made! All it all, I loved the quaint party!

Click here to see the invitations.

Don't you love how the signage turned out? All of those ingredients were amazing, and I am so thankful it worked out! More to come tomorrow!!
